Happy Birthday America!

July 4, 2011

Today we were presented with a stunningly beautiful Oregon day. After the rainy spring we’ve had, 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky was so wonderful. We took our annual trip down to St. Paul, Oregon home of the St. Paul Rodeo. They have a great little parade every year on the 4th, very small town America, lots of horses, rodeo princesses, fire trucks, antique cars and lots of tractors and farm equipment, and they all throw candy to the crowd. It is great.

My boys, watching the parade

The weather was beautiful, sunny and warm, and we saw lots smiles. It feels like summer is officially in full swing, finally. In honor of the gorgeous summer weather and the birth of our nation, here’s a list of fun children’s books to read outside this summer.

– “The Story of America’s Birthday” – Patricia Pingry

– “Happy 4th of July, Jenny Sweeney” – Nancy Cote

– “We the Kids” – David Catrow

– “Betsy Ross” – Alexander Wallner

– “A Picture Book of Paul Revere” – David Adler

– “A Picture Book of John Hancock” – David Adler

And, if you are feeling generous and would like to donate books like these to Court’s Kids, click here to learn more about how you can help.

Happy 4th everyone! Stay safe and enjoy!

Little by little,
