Summer Reading Program

May 23, 2010

Court’s Kids has developed a really great partnership with The Shadow Project, a wonderful organization which provides incentives for kids with special needs to achieve their goals in school. Just a few weeks ago their executive director and I worked out a really fun summer reading program for the kids. We’ve got about 7 schools participating, the kiddos write a letter about why they love reading and in return they earn “Shadow Bucks” to “buy” books to read over the summer. This last Thursday Court’s Kids donated 4 boxes (about 450 books) to the program.

Christy Scattarella, Executive Director and Co-founder of the Shadow Project, had this feedback for us,

“Thank you so much for the fabulous books! It looked like there were many awesome titles!  The kids will be thrilled!  Your summer reading program is such a great idea. To be able to provide these students books for home is such a treat and makes such a difference in their lives.”

We are so excited to help encourage kids to keep up their reading over the summer. More to come as we hear from the kids!

Little by Little,

This is such a great program! Is it for special needs kids, or kids from less fortunate families? This is a great opportunity for parents who cannot afford to get these books. 🙂

Thank you so much! Court’s Kids was developed to serve special education and early intervention programs specifically. By working closely with organizations like The Shadow Project we can work with a wide population and often the two groups intersect. We really just want to get books into kids’ hands, my sister (“Court”) devoted her career to serving children with special needs so that is our focus. – Kiki
